Welcoming space at the Dugout

SAFE SPACE

The Dugout provides a community living room where people can spend time off the streets or away from their hostel or single-room accommodation. Throughout the day guests enjoy snacks, TV, coffee, and conversation. We also offer free access to computers connected to the internet so our guests can do research and communicate with friends and family.

FIRST HOT MEAL OF THE DAY

Since 1967, the Dugout has welcomed guests with a warm bowl of soup and a place to rest. While we’re in our temporary space and unable to serve soup, we continue to offer a welcoming start to the day with hot coffee, fresh produce, donated baked goods, and prepared meals brought in by generous volunteers. Everyone is welcome at the table.

Each day, about 200 people enjoy fresh coffee provided by the familiar staff at the Dugout. Bread and other baked goods donated by local businesses and the Vancouver Food Bank are also provided free of charge.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS MEETINGS

The Dugout has hosted an Alcoholics Anonymous group, “The Out to Lunch Bunch,” since 1968. “The Out to Lunch Bunch” meets daily from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

EVENING PROGRAMS

For decades, the Dugout has been unable to open in the evenings due to underfunding. But the need is tremendous and we are planning to offer evening programs again! With financial support we can offer movie nights, meetings and entertainment for our guests.

GET INVOLVED

Every donation, no matter how small, goes a long way to serving those in the Downtown Eastside.
